Being an artist and painting nature was inevitable for Julia Rogers. Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay, she was strongly influenced by the area since childhood. With her mother an artist, and her father a sportsman and wildlife enthusiast, it’s not surprising that Julia began drawing landscapes and animals at a very young age. Over the years she has worked in several media and has gradually developed the distinctive style that defines her work today. She also paints a wide variety of subjects. “I’ve had many periods of growth that can be attributed to a change of medium or travel. I’ve been on a few painting trips to the South of France and Africa.” Africa has been a great inspiration for her work and has become one of her favorite destinations and subjects. A few years ago she traveled to the Okavango Delta, to see the wildlife in its natural habitat. She studied the northwest part of Botswana, where the Okavango River meets the sands of the Kalihari Desert and also visited Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls (one of the Seven Wonders of the World). The winter of 1997-98 brought Julia to East Africa, the trip of her life. The combination of wildlife interaction and Mother Nature’s creation, El Nino, provided her with an experience in Kenya that is unlikely to be replicated. Julia was selected to participate in the Malilangwe Artist Trust Program in Zimbabwe during the summer of 1999. Julia’s work can be viewed in several galleries across the United States. She has participated in many juried art shows including the Easton Waterfowl Festival, Pacific Rim Wildlife Art Show, the Southeastern Wildlife Festival and the Paxtuxent Wildlife Art Show and Sale where she was the featured artist. She is currently working for Land Rover as a consultant and artist for their 1999 Range Rover vehicle. Julia has also participated in Primatology in Art and Illustration, and has hung works in the Hiram Blauvelt Museum. She is a member of the Society of Animal Artists and has been selected to show her works in annual exhibitions such as Art and the Animal.
